Inthesummerof1996,IeinthebeautifulsouthernFrenchcountryside.Itanasked,“MyhusbandtellsmeyouareJeethingIeofvaluables,exceptfortheJudaicitems,eandkeepitforJeanette,tillshecomesback,’butsheandherfamilyneverreturned.”
Shepausedandtookaslomyparentsanddidn’ttellasoulofitsexistence.Indeed,overthelastfiftyyearstheonlypersonanmentionedthatsherememberedthatJeanette’sfamilying.ThisHannukah,themenorahitslightsgooutagain.
